If you're looking for a trainer who comes to your house in Wellesley, Weston, Newton, Needham, Natick or anywhere in MetroWest, the first two questions are usually the same: what does it cost, and how do I know I'm picking the right person? Here are straight answers to both.
What in-home training costs
In the Boston suburbs, in-home personal training usually costs more than a gym session, because the trainer drives to you and brings the equipment. At Forged Home Fitness the rates are:
Private 60-minute session in your home: $150
Senior session: $80 for 30 minutes or $150 for 60 minutes
Two people in the same home, same hour: $240
Student athletes (ages 10 to 21), 60 minutes: $115
First in-home evaluation: free
Most clients train one to three times a week. There are no contracts and no membership fees. Sessions are by appointment, Monday to Friday 5am to 7pm and weekends 6am to 3pm.
What you're paying for
No commute. The trainer comes to you, which for most people adds back two or three hours a week.
Equipment brought to you. You don't need a home gym. If you have one, it gets used.
A program built for your body. Your history, injuries, medications and goals shape every session.
Accountability. When someone is at your door at 6am, you train.
7 questions to ask before you hire an in-home trainer
What are your certifications? Look for a current, recognized certification. If you're older or managing a condition, ask specifically about senior or medical training. (Matt holds CFSC Level 2 and is a Certified Senior Fitness Specialist.)
Are you insured? Anyone training in your home should carry general liability insurance.
Have you trained people like me? A 72-year-old after a knee replacement and a 45-year-old who wants to lose 20 pounds need different coaching. Ask for specifics.
Will you work with my doctor or physical therapist? A good trainer asks for your clearance and limits and stays inside them. A trainer is not a clinician and shouldn't act like one.
Is the first session free? You should be able to meet the trainer, move in front of them and see a plan before paying.
Who actually shows up? At some companies you book with one person and a different trainer arrives. Ask who will train you every week.
What's the cancellation policy? 24 hours' notice is standard.
Is in-home training right for older adults?
Often it's the best fit. Training at home removes the drive, the parking lot and the intimidation of a gym floor. The work focuses on strength, balance and fall prevention, getting up from the floor, stairs, and the everyday movements that keep someone independent. It's also a natural next step after physical therapy ends.
Is it only for seniors?
No. Forged Home Fitness also trains busy professionals and parents for strength and weight loss, people working around back, knee or shoulder pain, and student athletes building speed and strength.
